mitt romney will spend part of today in ohio. he will start the day in wisconsin. he'll deliver what aides call his closing argument. from there, he heads to ohio and rallies in columbus, and cincinnati. today, your last chance to vote early in maryland. polling centers open from 8:00 this morning until 9:00 tonight. early voting was supposed to end earlier this week. it was extended through earlier today since polling centers were closed monday and tuesday. vote early through tomorrow in the district. polling centers open until 9:00 p.m. today and tomorrow. good news for new yorkers in the dark after hurricane sandy. con edison, the utility company that serve much of manhattan says power should be fully restored by tomorrow. a quarter million businesses and homes are without power. many of them near manhattan, meals and bogs battled bottled

will be distributed. >> yesterday, the mta reopened the system with limited service, stations jammed with people trying to board, leaving many no-to-call for more trains and buses. the subway not running through most of lower manhattan, because stations are still flooded. >> people in new york just trying to get around by car are not having much luck. simply getting gas is leading to lines. if you see monitors behind me, they stretch for blocks, even miles. in storm-ravaged new york and new jersey, people have waited for hours in the gas tanks. a lot of stations closed because of storm damage. a few stations backed up and even rationing gasoline in the two states and spacious starting to run out. >> this guy just cut me, i left a little space, i don't know if i'm going to make it.

>> waiting 2 1/2 hours. >> because of sandy, five oil refineries shut down or forced to work in limited capacity. three of them up and running as normal. the new york city marathon will take place on sunday. the new york road runners announced they will be donating $1 million as part of the campaign to help victims of sandy. con on versy surrounding the race. some felt it was trivial or too much of a burden on police to hold the marathon. but new york road runners say running the race shows the city's resilience. >> if the decision made the decision to cancel this race, there would have been at least as great of con vo tro versy, because this has always been known as the greatest day in the life of the city. >> nearly 47,000 runners participated in last year's marathon, the organization says they are expected up to 20%

today, first responders from our area will head to parts of west virginia that were pounded with snow. six vehicles from the red cross are headed to the mountainous areas of west virginia, where people have seen three feet of snow. that has not only caused power outages, but also causing flooding concerns as snow is beginning melt. at a time millions are

stabbed more than 25 times and left for dead in her rhode island avenue row home. she was working from home when someone knocked on her door. a man attempted to sexually assault her before trying to kill her. she screamed at the top of her lungs and fought back. >> this guy stabbing me, kicking my face in. and i was just fighting as best i could. i don't remember much following that. but i know it was just stabbing me everywhere. >> surveillance cameras caught clear images of the man. if you know anyone about the case or recognize this man, call police right away. two more suspects tied to nine violent attacks in eastern market are under arrest. the two men are linked to several violent robberies over the last few months. one of the attacks in august

left a young father, thomas maslin in a coma for six days and blind in one eye. three other suspects were arrested in august, due back in court next week. an officer facing attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting a handcuffed suspect in the back. johnny riley accused of shooting 26-year-old calvin kyle who he pulled over for riding a stolen motorcycle. after he was handcuffed and put in the back of the police car, kyle tried to run, that's when riley shot him. kyle is paralyzed from the waist down. riley will be in court today for a bond hearing. > 4:46. the man police believed threw pipe bombs into three homes is in a montana jail cell. laurence alan stewart was arrested on tuesday. police believe he was targeting his ex-girlfriend and two law enforcement officer who's arrested him in the past.

>> we have taken this very personal. this is a detective and deputy who were targeted, they and their families, as a result of just doing their jobs. and in addition to that, this was an attack on an innocent victim of nedomestic violence. we've taken this very personal. >> no one was hurt on tuesday's bombing. police in montana tried to pull stewart over for speeding. he threw several bombs at the officers during a high-speed chase before they were able to disable his car. he tried to flee on foot but officers caught him. big problems inside the group that runs two of our area airports. the department of transportation says the metropolitan washington airport officials are plagued with "broad mismanagement." employees are accused of exchanging lavish gifts for big

contracts. the group is cracking down on these problems. metro is working on reducing bus driver fatigue as a study shows bus operators fell asleep at the wheel 69 times for the past two years. drive cams activate when the bus hits something or makes a sudden stop. the study shows half of the drivers caught sleeping are work two shifts in one day. driver who's fall asleep on the job are required to undergo medical tests before they return to work. add some time to your metro ride this weekend. some stations will be closed. starting tonight at 10:00, rosalind and cemetery road stations will be closed. buses will replace trains between foggy bottom and courthouse on the orange line. and foggy bottom and pentagon on the blue line. red line, single tracking between twin brook and fwrovner.
